Can Thyroid problems prevent my daughter becoming pregnant?

My daughter has been taking thyroid medication for 4 years now, and is on a fairly high dose. Her blood tests show her to be 3 which is within range of normal. She feels tired, and very depressed and irritable at times. She just turned 28 years old. For the past four years, she and her husband have been trying to start a family, but no luck. On different occasions, she has not had a period, and has had symptoms like she is pregnant. On one occasion, her MD wonders if she did in fact have a miscarrage. She and her husband have both been checked out, and have been to an infertility specialist. She has had tests, and nothing has shown up. She cannot get anyone to tell her, if the thyroid medication and/or problem is what is preventing her from becoming pregnant. If it possible that the thyroid problem or medication is the cause of their inability to conceive?

I have two first cousins who also have thyroid problems and have had operations on it. They are both married and it is believed that they cannot conceive because of this condition. I don't know why, but perhaps it is because some essential horomones are regulated by the thyroid? I hope this helps and that you get an answer to your question.
