Hello, my father has been to a doctor who discovered angina pectoris and problems with high blood pressure. This did come as a surprise; he does exercise a lot, although I have to admit that he also eats a lot. Anyway, he has been prescribed with Verapamil among some other medications. Is that medication dangerous? Can it cause high blood pressure?

Verapamil belongs to calcium antagonist group of medications whose main function is decreasing of the blood pressure. It is usually combined with systemic anti hypertensive drugs that decrease high blood pressure on the kidney level. I assume you have misunderstood his doctor. Verapamil will help your father deal with that condition.
