I too have had stomach pain for years. My triggers to stay away from are wine coolers, mountain dew and rum.
I went through every test known to man and it turns out I simply make too much acid in my stomach. You've heard of GERD?
Prilosec increased my pain. previcid worked great but my insurance changed and they will no longer pay for it. Now on Nexium which works with a few minor breakthrough episodes.
So if anyone still needs answers---this is what the problem is. No ulcers! |

| I am having the same problem. About two or three days ago I had a couple of friends over for a game of beirut and I have to admit I drank way too much! Now I have this horrible stomach pain that won't go away. I can eat bits and pieces but I get nauseous after a while. Any help? |

Posted: 08/10/08 - 17:56 Post subject: stomach pain related to alcohol |
| I too can relate. I have an occasional drink here and there. Most of the time it doesn't bother me. However, sometimes the pain in my stomach is so intense I can't breathe. It starts slowly and progresses to the point I wonder if I'm going to have a heart attack. It usually lasts from 15 minutes up to an hour. The epicenter of pain is just below the sturnum, and at its worst can move through my back and down my arms. I get chills and feel like I'm burning up at the same time. When I feel it starting I try and eat some bread. This seems to make it stop sooner. I try and stay away from sweet drinks because they seem to cause this reaction more often. However, I have had the same reaction from shots of alcohol and beer. I know its not gas or anxiety or heartburn. I can't seem to find an answer for why this is happening, but I think it has something to do with alcohol and sugar. I would really like some answers. |

For (most) everyone suffering from stomach pains after drinking alcohol, it's just alcohol causes your stomach to produce acid. Here's what you do: take two Tums (bigger ones) 10-15 minutes before you drink. I'll bet it'll "cure" your stomach ache drinking problem like it did mine and change your life for the better! I suffered with it for 20 years and now I'm catching up on the good times without the pain. Try it today.
Good luck! |

Posted: 08/31/08 - 07:59 Post subject: Acute Alcoholic Gastritis |
Hi
I am 24 and have also on occasion experienced the sharp burning a lot of people on here have mentioned. A few years ago after some very heavy drinking i vomited all day for the next day and then saw the doctor. He said i had "acute alcoholic gastritis" which means inflamed stomach lining. He likened it to the inside of my stomach looking like a grazed knee. For months after this i could not stomach alcohol because it made me feel like i had been punched in the stomach and winded. when i drink too much now, it feels just the same as it did then.
I experienced the death of someone close to me recently from pancreatic cancer. I also know that dying from cirrhosis is quite similar and all i can say is that it is not a good way to go. This type of thing is always a surprise when it happens, and it is so quick between diagnosis and the end. I too realize how difficult it is to stop drinking but i think the key is to fix the reason why you drink, because we don't drink to make us happy, we do it to stop us from feeling unhappy.
don't ignore what your body is telling you. |
