Hello! My sister is forty five and she told me she has problems with her joints that are painful. It is her fingers that usually hurt her a lot. She usually takes some over-the-counter pain relievers and the symptoms go away in a few days. She thinks this could be arthritis but I don’t think so. I think she is too young for such disease. Can arthritis occur in middle ages?

Hello! Although many people think that arthritis is a disease of old age the first signs of arthritis occur much earlier and it is shown that this disease begins its initially painless course in early 30s or even 20s. Most of the time a person doesn’t suspect anything until 40s or 50s when the disorder starts to affect bones. By then, the damage has already been done, and the treatments can't do much but to ease the pain and try to maintain the status quo in already degenerating joints.
