Can eating disorder be hereditary?

Hello! My sister has two daughters who are 14 and 16. They are really great girls and we love them very much. I noticed the younger is very thin and I am afraid she has some eating disorder. My sister used to fight eating disorder when she was a teenage girl. Can eating disorder be hereditary?

Hello! Well, it is noticed that eating disorders may run in families. The parents (especially mothers) influence our values and priorities especially those toward food, which may be the reason eating disorders to run in families. But there also is a suggestion that there may be a genetic component to certain behaviors, and eating disorders could be one such behavior.
