Can environmental factors cause chronic lymphocytic leukemia?

Hi, I would like to ask something about my father’s condition. He is 68 years old and has been diagnosed with CLL – chronic Lymphatic leukemia. He was always very healthy and I just don’t understand how he got it. It’s a good thing there are no signs yet, so he is under no therapy for now. I would like to know can environmental effects cause CLL.

The most common cause for CLL is genetic in its nature. As for environmental effects, they can be the cause, but we are talking about some really heavy substances, strong herbicides etc. For example, some of the US soldiers in Vietnam that used chemicals during warfare have subdued to some form of CLL.
