Hello, folks. I have heard something about the vaccine called gardasil. I know that it is good for preventing genital warts and cervical cancer caused by human papilloma viruses. The thing that interests me is if gardasil can prevent HIV infection. I would really appreciate if anyone could answer me this.

Hi, there. You have heard well. Gardasil really prevents from genital warts and cervical cancer caused by human papilloma viruses (HPV). However, it cannot prevent from any other sexually transmitted disease. I am afraid HIV as well. I hear there are some researches about gardasil and preventing HIV infection. There are still no data available. If you find out something new, please, let me know. I hope you don’t mind that. Bye!

Gardasil may have an indirect effect of reducing HIV infection. Apparently HIV infection is more likely to take place in folks with HPV, thus if someone can avoid HPV they are more likely to also avoid HIV.
