Can hip fracture occur due to osteoporosis?

My mother has osteoporosis. She is desperate because she heard that many people with osteoporosis can have hip fractures. Her best friend, who also osteoporosis, had a hip fracture and now my mother is worried. Tell me, please, Can hip fracture occur due to osteoporosis? Does she need to worry? Thanks!

I’m sorry that I need to say to you that people with osteoporosis are at much greater risk for developing a hip fracture from accidents such as falls. Because they have thinner and weaker bones then people without osteoporosis. So, she has a reason to worry and she needs to be extremely careful.
