Can hypertrophic cardiomyopathy appear in young people?

I know that hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is a genetic disorder typically inherited. My father had HCM and he died few years ago. Now I started to worry because I realized that I can get this disorder one day. I’m 21 years old and I don’t know do I need to worry. I’m wondering Can hypertrophic cardiomyopathy appear in young people?

Well, I need to say you that hypertrophic cardiomyopathy may occur at any age from newborn to elderly. And it is a progressive condition that worsens over time. If your father had hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, you have 50 percent chance to get it. Maybe you should go to doctor and check your hear.
