Can meningitis cause unilateral hearing loss?

Hello! My boy is twelve years old and it is diagnosed that he has unilateral hearing loss. Our doctor told us that unilateral hearing loss is heredity disease, but we never had any case of unilateral hearing loss in both families. But, few months ago, my son had meningitis. So, I am wondering now can meningitis cause unilateral hearing loss?

Hello! I do not know why your doctor did not tell you that unilateral hearing loss can be caused because of meningitis. Unilateral hearing loss can be caused because of ear strong infection, too. The most important thing is that you have discovered this on time. I hope that everything will be fine with your son.
