Can pulmonary Serratia kill and can it stay dorment?

Iive got a friend that was recently diagnosed with Serratia in her lungs. She did have surgery in Jan. She had this about 20 yrs. ago as well. Can this lay dormant within the body, or is this yet another attack from this surgery in Jan. Can she die from this? I can't find enough info. to help her anywhere online. Can you either guide me to somewhere that I can find other info. to help her or PLEASE tell me what I can do to find out more statistics to give her from other's experiences? I'm very worried. All help is appreciated. Thank you so very much.
