I would like to hear some facts about pituitary gland. I have been diagnosed with prolactinom, which is a benign tumor on pituitary gland. It occurred as a result of increased level of prolactinom, body hormone. It is macro adenoma and my doctor told me that removal is necessary. Can radiation stop tumor from spreading in pituitary gland?
There are different approaches with pituitary gland tumors. All tumors of this gland are benign by its structure, but depending on the speed of the growth, they might be malign by localization and make a pressure on the surrounding brain tissue. A lot of success in the therapy is shown by a combination of medications, which inhibits the secretion of increased hormone. Laser operation sis also possible and it removes the tumor tissue.
