Hello! My father has been having serious heart problems for many years. He had myocardial infarction six months ago and his doctor prescribed many medicines he should take. He also takes aspirin regularly and last time when he went to see his doctor he added coumadin to his therapy. It is actually very low dosage but I heard that coumadine is very dangerous drug. I mean, can you be on both Coumadin and aspirin therapy?

Hi! Well you are right, coumadine is a serious drug and many doctors feel much safer when prescribing aspirin only since it can cause serious bleeding.. Actually, the combination of aspirin and low dosage coumadine is more effective but it is associated with greater risk of bleeding. But, I think your father is under good supervision of his doctor and there is no need to worry. I am sure that there was a reason for prescribing such combination.
