Can you somehow prevent myopia from worsening?

Hello! My son suffers from myopia. He is wearing glasses and his myopia is getting worse. I took him to check his eyes yesterday and his doctor noticed significant worsening. He explained that this is common at his age but I am worried. I have a five years old daughter and I will take her to check her eyes as well. Can you somehow prevent myopia from worsening?

Hello! Although myopia is treated it can not be kept from worsening. It also can not be prevented. It often gets worse in children in the time of their intensive growth which is most probably the case with your son. You shouldn’t worry since myopia grows till late teens and then usually stabilizes. Your son myopia will not improve as he gets older. Since recent researches indicated that people in professions that include extensive reading have higher degrees of myopia you can take care that your son takes periodic breaks while reading.
