Hello! Most patients need to wear eyeglasses after cataract surgery. There is a possibility for eye various implants which will help cataract patients to be less dependent of eyeglasses. If your mother decides to choose monofocal lens implants she will be dependent on glasses in about 70% of cases. If she chooses to have multifocal lens implants she will only be dependent on glasses either some or most of the time in about 15% of cases. Your mother will feel a greater overall freedom from glasses in most everyday activities. Most insurances cover the cost of the cataract surgery but not the cost of the multifocal lens and its implantation, so your mother has to consider additional costs.
