Our mother has just been diagnosed with senile dementia. My sister and I, we both knew that there was something wrong with her in last few weeks, but I suppose we could not admit to ourselves that someone so dear to us is affected by such grave illness. Anyway, doctor, among other things, mentioned that Cerebral Atrophy might and probably will occur. Is there any way to prevent that?

I am sorry to hear that your mother is suffering from this type of illness. Cerebral Atrophy is just a consequence of the main condition, senile dementia in this case. Other symptoms include loss of memory and intellectual dysfunction. This could all lead t a complete loss of independency. There are medications that are meant to slow down the process, but to completely stop it, that is not possible.
