New outbreaks of bird flu have been reported in China but this time they were human. The first human case who died in China was a 24-year-old woman in China's eastern province of Anhui. Another 12-year-old girl from central Hunan province who died in October is also suspected to had died from the H5N1 virus as her brother has been found infected with the virus as well. There wasn’t enough blood taken from her body before she died, so doctors can’t tell for sure. Both her and her brother were treated for pneumonia.

The brother of the girl who died is the first case confirmed human case of bird flu. His blood contained bird-flu antibodies, which is a "clear sign" of an infection with the deadly H5N1 strain of the virus.

Another person, also suspected of having the bird flu is a teacher, who has been exposed to infected chicken, just like the two children did.
