My husband has some serious difficulties. He is drinking a lot and for a long period of time. Recently he has started to feel pains in the backs. At least he thought so. The pain was persistent and didn't go away. Then he has started to lose weight and his stool was pale and greasy. I knew something is wrong other then spine. He was diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis. Can you explain this condition a little?
Of course. Excessive drinking is common cause of chronic pancreatitis. The trouble occurs when digestive enzymes start leaking on pancreas and start to digest it. It causes the inflammation and after it the scarring process distorts the pancreas and further inflammations became likely. Then the cycles began. Pancreas does not make enough enzymes to digest the food and doesn't make enough insulin which can lead to diabetes. Also the weight loss and pale greasy stool is usual because it is full of fat that you can't digest.
