A new research on protective coffee effects on the liver showed that drinking coffee may decrease the risk of alcohol induced liver cirrhosis by 22 % per cup each day.
It is thought that an ingredient present in coffee protected against cirrhosis but they are uncertain about which ingredient it could be. They first thought of caffeine but caffeine was ruled out because tea drinkers didn’t seem to have such benefits. This may the a consequence of lack of study participants in the tea study.
Anyway, coffee additives like cream, milk, sugar and other substances are said to may have had an added positive effects on health.
Such findings don’t mean that doctors will be prescribing coffee in cases of alcohol cirrhosis and avoidance and quitting alcohol would certainly stay first line treatment.
