Hi, polyps are growths which develop in the colon, and carry risk to develop further to the cancer. If they are bleeding they can cause anemia. They can also spread from the lining of the intestine to rectum. Polyps of the colon and rectum are usually benign and asymptomatic. As you grow older, your chances for developing polyps increase. It is being suggested to remove these polyps in order to avoid any further complications. Polyps with atypia or dysplasia have greater chances to progress on to colon cancer.
