Hi, my father got colon cancer two months ago. Now, he has undergone the surgery and is taking chemotherapy. How long does it take to recover? How will his eating habits be effected when he recovers?

Surgery is usually needed to take out malignant tissue and stop it’s spreading. Depending on the stage of the disease and the general health condition of the patient, chemotherapy can also be applied. Radical bowel resection is done so that part of colon containing tumor is removed and and parts of node are reconnected. Lymph node nearby tumor is removed, too, it’s called lymphadenectomy. There are many factors determining response to surgical intervention like age, health condition, progression of disease. Like after any other surgery patients experience pain, weakness, fatigue, and loss of appetite. Dietary modifications are required until eating functions are renewed.
