I had my gall bladder removed approximately 21 years ago and recently I came across an article that explained that many individuals will develop pancreatic cancer about 20 years after gall bladder removal surgery.
Hel-l-o!! My doctor failed to mention this. As I read on, the article explains that the removal of the gall bladder taxes the other organs that used to be only sharers in the breakdown of fats and other functions, namely the pancreas and liver. Many times if the diet that caused the gall bladder issues to begin with aren't corrected, the pancreas that now is handling the whole job by itself may develop infections and after many repeated infections, it can turn into cancer. If only I had known this 21 years ago, I might have found motivation to stay on my diet. So far, I haven't seen any pancreatic problems, but I feel like a ticking time bomb. My only comfort is found in the fact that maybe if I watch my diet carefully now, maybe, just maybe, I won't have to suffer this particular side effect of gall bladder removal. |
