My mother was diagnosed with Congenital Encephalopathy several months ago. I never really understood what it meant, and my parents were not so eager to give me or my brother some explanation. Mom cried several times, and Dad seems always sad. Lately, I noticed that mom has some difficulties while walking and that worries me a lot. What is this congenital encephalopathy?
Generally, when we talk about Congenital Encephalopathy we talk about brain damage from birth. In your Mom's case, Spastic Paraplegia is the effect of that brain damage. It is a sort of disorder that affects leg's muscles (stiffness and muscle tone are increased). Unfortunately, I have to tell you that this condition is progressive, but rest assured that your mother will still be able to walk a bit harder though.
