Hello. I'm 29 year old mother and my little boy has been diagnosed three days ago with some lung disorder called pleurisy.
To be honest with you, I really don’t know a thing about it accept the fact that it has something to do with the outer layer of his lungs.
Problem is that we contacted his doctor pretty late because we were thinking that it is simple cold and that’s all.
That’s why I'm afraid the most. He’s got some medications and doctor also told him that he should rest all the time and breath shallow.
Can someone please tell me, what could be the consequences of pleurisy?

Hi. I was diagnosed with pleurisy half a year ago and I'm feeling just fine now and have no symptoms. So, in most cases, here are no complications.
It is also possible that, when dry pleurisy heals, it leaves scars of fibrous tissue between the lung and the pleura, tying them together. This can limit movements of the lungs. In some inflammations, even fluid can builds up in the pleural cavity causing condition called tamponade. This fluid can get infected and the new condition is called empyema and it can get rather serious.
Pus can even break into lungs and blockade air ways but it happened very rarely.
