That sounds like either mucus or pus. Your doctor should know about this.
For those who get the swelling but not the nasty stringy stuff, you might consider looking into Sjogren's Syndrome. |

Mine is a little different....ONLY when i turn upside down,or eat sour food my right cheek puffs out like a blow fish!!!!! Its so weird! really just feels like strong pressure not pain... just uncomfortable.
Mine has been there since i was little...my mom said both used to do it but i only remember the right one. When i eat anything sour i have to rub it back to normal.... and it only hurts if i accidently sleep with it puffed out all night ,and then my cheek feels like a pinching big bruise in the morning.... a day later it will be fine... my family doctor told me it was called a "sensitive salivary gland" when i was like 13.... i am now 25.
It has remained the same my whole life, so i dont continue to find out what it really is or if i am in need of fixing it....anyone else have a situation like this??

my 18 year old son had it about 2 years ago, and now it swelled up again, it was not painful but very swollen. I took him to a Dr and he said that it is quite likely from his infectec throat! My son has had strep throat several times, and he sometimes has infected throat without even knowing, as his throat always has a bit of discomfort from chronic strep.
I looked at him (the DR) with suprise and he said that the glands always swell up some when there is a throat infection, and sometimes they swell up and get pretty bad, which is why the antibiotics seem to help.
Sometimes they remove the tonsils and it clears up, so he says |

| i have been experiencing swollen salivary glands (at least thats what i think it is) for about 3 years now. no pus or anything like that, just swollen all the time. Both cheeks, sometimes swollen really bad, sometimes just a little. my face always seems to be red, like blood always rushes to it. Seems to get worse when just about to eat/after eating, and while lying flat on my back. When my face is swollen really bad im light headed and have a headache. Been to a doctor recently she diagnosed it as infected salivary glands, and gave an anitbiotic. It seemed to help for a week (thats all the prescription lasted) but then my face began to swell again. Its constant and its driving me crazy. Not so much as painful as it is annoying. My family says they dont seem to notice it except for when its really swollen, but I know my face doesnt feel right. The dr. said that sucking on really sour candy might help, and said possibly have a dentist reomove stones if the problem is not resolved. Has anyone else had this procedure done? and did it help? |
