Constant menstral pain and spotting all through the month

My last menstral period lasted about three weeks, I kept taking my birth control pills and i still was having my period at the same time. I constantly in pain or irritated by cramps. Sometimes the spotting is very light and sometimes it's heavy and then goes away throughout the day. I have no appetite really and feel kind of nausous. What's wrong with me? Should i change my birth control? Sad
