Contraceptive implant - is it working?

I had an implant put in in the summer 2007 and after that I didnt seem to get any periods and if i did they were very few, light and far between. Then a few months a go i noticed a bit of a bruise just above where the implant it (now this could be a coincidence as i do play football and therefore may have bruised it through playing) but not i seem to be almost constantly on a light period that comes and goes by the day. it is very annoying and am considering having it taken out. But i was just wondering whether this is a sign of it not working or whether this is a normal way to react to it??

I was told by my doctor that you have to give it at least 6 months for your body to adjust to the new changes that are taking place in your body but if this persists along with headaches and a lot of weight gain, then maybe you should visit your doctor. Like all contraceptives, there are side affects and that has to be taken into account but contraceptives do not work well for everyone so maybe the implant might not be the best option for you!
