Could Methotrexate be used for cancer patients?

My sister's son is facing with the terrible moments in his life. He is diagnosed with cancer. My sister is not able to think at all she is crying all the time. So I must ask something instead of her. He is prescribed with methotrexate. Could Methotrexate be used for cancer patients?

Yes, it can be used in cancer patients. In the matter of fact it has been used since 1956 as I recall. Then it was used to treat a rare tumor of choriocarcinoma. It works by blocking the enzyme which is needed for cells growth. It is one of the so called chemotherapy drugs. It can be used to treat various kinds of cancers.
