Could childhood mental ability be related to dementia?

I have a question regarding late onset dementia. My son is 6 years old and unfortunately, he is not progressive as other kids of his age. He does not play much with them, and because of all that I am very worried for him. Could childhood mental ability be related to dementia?

Unfortunately, there have been some researches that tell us about the connection between late onset dementia and low mental ability grades in early years of life. But, this accounts only for late onset dementia not the early type. But, I think that you should search for some professional help immediately and see what is really going on.
