Could famvir be used in pregnancy?

My pregnant sister has shingles. She went to doctor and he said to her that she need to take medication called famvir. I'm wondering could famvir be used in pregnancy. Is it safe for a baby? I'm her older brother and can't stop worry. Please, does anybody know something about this medication? Thank you!

Don't worry! Your sister's doctor knows his job. Famvir does not cure herpes infections but decreases pain and itching and promotes healing. This is a very effective medication and it can be used during pregnancy. I know that for sure because I had the same problem when I was pregnant. But if she'll use Famvir while nursing, she will probably wish to consider an alternative to breast-feeding.
