Hello! My grandmother died of idiophatic pulmonary fibrosis. She lived only few months after this disease was diagnosed. She had never smoked cigarettes and didn’t even allow people to smoke when she was in the room. She always took good care of her health and we were in shock when her doctor told us what she was suffering of. Could idiophatic pulmonary fibrosis be inherited?

Hello! The right cause for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis is not yet found. The scientist only determined what may increase the risk for this disease but they are not sure what causes it exactly. Your genes can also play a role in the development of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. Also, the following things may increase the chances of developing idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis: cigarette smoking, viral infections, environmental pollutants as well as use of certain medicines and chemotherapy.
