Hi! I need some information about one medicament called naproxen. Well, my very good friend has a child with juvenile idiopathic arthritis. The pediatrician prescribed to her naproxen 5 mg/kg given twice a day. I heard that if children take naproxen for a long period, they can have some problems with skin. Is it truth?

Yes, it's truth. Unfortunately, a lot of children with naproxen therapy are reported and the diagnosis of pseudoporphyria discussed. Pseudoporphyria is characterized by blistering and scarring on sun-exposed skin. All of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) can cause this skin problem. Children with juvenile arthritis usually use naproxen and some of them can have skin photo-toxic reactions. You friend should consult with pediatric dermatologist.
