Well, any
training would help you, and that is one of the best options for you. But if you are amateur, maybe normal jogging would suit you. In the end it is your
choice, but if you want to be fit, it will be enough. But for the best running results cross-training is great. Of course it is not the same if you want to be fast in the shorter track, or you need to be strong in longer courses. Cross training certainly helped me when I was younger. That is about it.
