I just had a double cyst removal and they had to get preety deep. It was deep enough to put me under general. I woke up and was ok for a few days. Had a preety big hollow space under my arm sealed in stiches.

Then the infection came back. The stiches had to be removed, drained and had to get stuffing placed and removed every day for 2 weeks. Now I am facing surgery again next week to remove another 4cm of tissue.

If you suspect a cyst DO NOT HESITATE! get to a good doctor and get it fixed quick. I waited because I was on a 3 week business trip and it ened up going from simple lancing to surgery and a huge hollow space under my arm.

Hi,

My experince is like this. About a year ago while on a extended business trip I got a sore red lump under my arm. It was quite deep and I couldn’t get it to come to the surface to drain it. After several days in the trip it subsided so I refrained from going to the doctor until I got home. On my return trip the pain was bad and the red swollen lump became larger than before. When I got home I went to the doctor and he lanced and drained it. It left a hole under my arm where the infection tracked down into the tissue.

The doctor stuffed it with medicated dressings, trying to let the would heal from the inside out. Well it didn't work because he never removed the actual cyst, just drained it. The infection came back again and this time I went to a surgeon who did proper testing and examination. I went into surgery and had a large piece of tissue removed from under my arm leaving a scar about an inch long. That as the easy part. The hard part was the 2 months of treatment as the hole left from the surgery had to grow from the inside out, then stitches and staples (Which ripped out twice) and being unable to exercise for 2 months and putting on about 10 kilos. But as uncomfortable as it all was it worked. The wound sealed and infection (knock on wood) has not come back.

My advice is get a good doctor with experience in this matter, and bite the bullet and get the surgery done.

The first time I got one I thought it was a swollen lymph node, so I went to the doctor. She said it was a cyst, and that it wasn't anything to be too concerned about, and told me to put a warm water compress on it, to "soften" it, and once it was soft I could drain it. I took her advice, and was able to drain it after sticking a small needle in it. Now, 4 months later I'm getting them again, one under each arm. I think it may actually be effected by my caffeine intake, possibly...does anyone else drink a lot of coffee? I also noticed that they first started to appear shortly after getting a tattoo done on my upper arm, which had become infected also, and may have had a staph infection, which someone had mentioned cysts could be related to a type of staph infection...

A couple of years ago I had a Cyst on my right armpit and I would put hot rags on it. It seemed like no matter what I did it still grew so I went to the doctors and they tried to draw some infection out of it but all that came out was blood. So when I got home I took a hot rag and a needle and started to drain it. a couple weeks later I noticed I had gotten a scar from it and realized there was a lump inside my armpit and I kept on getting them. Finally 2 years later I stopped getting them and I have about 5 scars from them.

That's somewhat unusual. What do you mean that you had a scar from it? Are you still getting cysts? Let me know, okay?

Hi! I just went to the doctor yesterday because of a lump under my left armpit. She told me it was a cyst but it wasn't ready to be lanced. She put me on antibiotics and suggested an old wive's tale in order to bring it to a head. Being from Russia, she said that I should bake an onion for about an hour and then peel it and put a few of the petals under my armpit and secure it with tape or whatever, and leave it on over night. I haven't tried it but I may tonight.
The doctor even suspected MRSA, which would really suck. I've had these lumps before but never as bad as it is now. Last time the doctor mentioned removing them-I wish she would. I'm tired of getting them. Let's hope the antibiotics work and it just goes away. Glad to know that I'm not the only one who has them! Very Happy

Ok so here is my horrible cyst story...About one year ago I got my first cyst on my right thigh, it got so bad that I could not work...While I was waiting to see my doctor I formed 2 more cysts under my right arm - One aside another. I am a butcher by trait...I have dealt with alot of pain in my life, but this was by far the worse pain I have ever experienced. The only reason I say this is because it is a steady pain, it did not fluctuate...every time I moved my arms or walked it would hurt extremely bad. I Finally broke down and went to the emergency room where they lanced it and put a surgical gauze inside the wound, to ensure that it was drained completely before healing. I was put on a 2 week antibiotic cycle and my cysts were gone...FOR ABOUT 2 MONTHS!!!! They came back with a vengeance, I ended up having 2 more under my right armpit and 1 under my left armpit. One thing that I found interesting was one doctor said I need to immediately have them removed while another doctor said I could just take antibiotics and give it a warm soak and it should take care of itself. So while I was trying what the second doctor told me something horrible happened all 3 cysts popped one night while I was sleeping, I woke up a mess....From what I am told the puss inside is toxic to the skin, this is why in some cases the toxins will eat away at your skin until it pops due to pressure. Those cysts also went away, this time for 4 months...I got a single cyst on my lower stomach, I went thew the painful steps again. And now another is forming under my right arm again...BUT the last time I went to the doctor I anticipated it happening again just in case....so I asked if I could have extra antibiotics so I do not have to waste my money seeing the doctor if I already know what it is and how to fix it.

I have seen a total of 5 doctors and none of them can give me a straight answer as to WHY I have these things. One doctor said it was because I need to shower, I take 2 showers a day one in the morning and one at night...I also use a betadine solution every time I shower. Another doctor said it was because I work out and have a labor intensive job...so it all leads back to sweating, the doctors were trying to get me to take this medication that would cut down the amount I sweat...I am not one for taking medication EVERYDAY OF MY LIFE so I refused. I am waiting for a logical reason to why I keep getting these things. These things are no joke, they are very painful and I have plenty of scars from them. My advice to anyone who does get them is to clean the area with a betadine solution(Mix it with your regular body wash)while in the shower. Also Use a hot compress and soften the puss inside. NEVER POKE IT WITH A NEEDLE, this will most likely cause infection which will lead to much worse problems. Keep clean and if they are under your arms try to be sure when you apply your deodorant that the stick itself is quite a ways out from the plastic container it is held in...because if the plastic scrapes your skin it will start to form skin abrasions that fill up with debris that eventually become cysts. Also for the record, when the doctor gives you the numbing shots before he lances it is the worse part....In my case the shot did not numb it all the way so I still had extreme pain while he was cutting it, I am a very passive person...but I seriously wanted to punch him or push him away from me because that is your basic instinct, to get away from the thing that is causing you more pain. I just wanted to share my story with you all to let anyone out there who gets these painful buggers that they are not alone.
