I have been diagnosed with DVT. I had a very large clot in my right leg. I have been prescribed Warfarin, and have recovered slowly. I am on bird control wrigth now. My right leg is still 2 inches larger in diameter. I would like to hear someone with similiar conditions. Will I ever be able to go running or biking?

Hi! Yes, you will be able to go running and biking. I am 16 year old, and I had my first clot when I was 14. I was on bird control only three months. I can tell you that the recovery will be slow, but you will recover. I still have a lot of pain if I walk too much, but the doctors encourage me to regularly exercise the leg. However, I go running every day with pleasure. You must be persistent!

I am a 40-year old female who is on her 2nd DVT (blood clot). The first one was after dislocating my knee - the second one came out of nowhere.

First of all: all my doctors (and there have been many) have absolutely forbidden me to take any more birthcontrol pills. They contain hormones that are known to cause DVT's. My OBGYN has recommended an IUD with a low dose of hormone that does not enter the blood stream.

The reason for my second clot is still unknown, but some of the factors may be; the pill, sitting still for hours at my desk at work, Protein C deficiency in my blood.... I am taking every precaution so that this will not happen again. Allthough my DVT is not too painful, I'm still a little scared.

I know there is light at the end of the tunnel. Normal life - after all the medications, doctor visits and blood tests - will return. Starting off, my leg was weak and I had discoloration (similar to vericose or spider veins) starting at my ankle. The discoloration is still there, but the leg is almost back to normal. I can easily do an hour on the threadmill at 3 miles/hr and the stairs at work is no problem. After the first DVT I was back to normal after only 3-4 months - the second one seems to take a little longer.

Hope you have a speedy recovery!
