A year and a half ago I became sick in Beijing. That's right... China . At first I thought it was food poisoning seeing as how restraunt conditions are very poor there, but the problem never went away. I constantly have light pain and nausea just below the ribs in the upper abdominal area (the soft spot in the stomach where no one wants to get punched). At least once a day, that same area gets bloated or inflamed and the pain and nausea increase significantly. Though the stronger problems happen randomly at other times, I have been able to make a connection with this happening mostly after a bowel movement. Within a minute or two after a bowel movement, I begin feeling very nauseated, with pain, and bloating or inflamation. I can't really tell whether it is all pain or if it is nausea. They seem so similar, but this has never caused me to throw up. If you run your hand accross it, you can actually feel my bloated or inflamed stomach or whatever it is pushing out from my upper abdomen region right in the center just below the ribs. Basically, I am very sick and concerned about what this is . This happens after most bowel movements, but not all of them.
I have had every test known to man including tests for parasites, bacteria, and major diseases. I've had 2 upper GI's, 1 colonoscapy, a CT scan on my abdomen, An ultrasound, and the doctors still haven't a clue. I have tried various diets. I tested positive and was treated for H-Pylori and C-diff (don't know the correct spelling of this bacteria). Last month I had my gallbladder removed and after all this, I still have the same problem.
I am really sick . If you have ever had a problem like this or you think you may have an educated diagnosis as to what this is, then you could become my hero .
So PLEASE take your best shot and diagnose me, and maybe I'll buy you a super suit .All kidding aside, anyone who has a thought please share it. PLEASE don't just read this and move on if you think you might be able to help. I have about given up on doctors though I will keep looking for one who can solve the problem.
Thanks in advance,
Ron |

| That describes my symtoms to a T. They gave me an ultrasound, x-rays, 2 cat scans, upper and lower G.I. and I am ready to scream. The burning is horrible so when people suggest I just gained weight in the mid section upsets me no end. The pain is mostly when I sit and I can't believe they can't find out what I have. I am going to an OBGYN in a few weeks (I would sooner but he is on vacation of course). This all happened after a hysterectomy by the way. Which I know Ron did not have. |

Hi
went through similiar symptoms without ever leaving the state. But as a RN being treated for C-dif and for the other you should be better..... Have they ruled out collagenous colitis is different from the ulcerative>and or celiac disease. I ended up first diagnoise by biopsy to the colitis and then two years later similiar symptoms and found out about celiac disease.
the best book my primary care doctor gave me called Breaking the Vicious Cycle by Elaine Gottschall think spelling is right anyway can get it at amazon.com .not expensive and saved my life as how I was feeling. I followed the diet faithfully as prescribed and did get better.
Have been without any flare-ups until just recently so I will dig my book back out.
Good luck,
Pam |

Hi Ron and all of you who have responded to Ron
I to have the same symptoms. My symptoms started april 2007. I have been to Europe as well. I don't think it has anything to do with that.. Diets are not helping either. So, I am wondering if this could have anything to do with meat. I opened a german restaurant 8 months ago and cooked a lot of meats including pork. I am now looking into the health risk of pork consumption. I have closed the restaurant because I am nausious daily.
At first I thought, it is the stress of the business. I don't think thats it. Always having been a size 2 or 4 I am now a 10. I buy size 10 cloths to help cover the stomach. I look 6 months pregnant. (I can't get pregnant)
possitive. I was thinking of making an apt with a Dr. at some point
After reading about all the tests involved, I think I'll keep researching. I would rather choose not be someones project and pay them for it. |

Hi All,
I have been reading your posts and can't help up sympathize. I was in the Peace Corps 12 years ago and lived with dyssentary for the 2+ years that I was there. It seems that everytime I travel I pick up a bug-- not good. My Peace Corps time resulted in being diagnosed with ulcerative colitis.
My experience with American doctors is that they generally don't know what they are doing, espcially in terms of GI problems, and especially those contracted overseas. Very few doctors have experience in tropical disease and very few GI specialists have the patience to heal the sick with non-drastic measures.
My advice is to pay the extra money to send a stool sample to the Great Smokies lab (somewhere in Kentucky?) They will help you, then take the results to a doctor you can trust. Also, work with a nutritionist to balance out (and expand on) the basic treatment of symptoms that U.S. doctors provide. For myself, I refused steroids and went on a very strict, low-fiber diet and felt better within two weeks.
Good luck! |

| I've had the same problem for sbout seven years. The first step is to go on a rigorous diet and see a hollistic doctor. Get tested for food allergies. I am allergic to anything made with cow's milk and other types of foods. Did you have a colonscopy with a biopsy? That made the whole difference. I was finally diagnosed with collagenous colitis. Once I had the diagnosis I was able to change my lifestyle and live more of a normal life. |
