Dark brownish period during menopause

I am 46 years old and am in the middle of menopause. I miss months without having periods, however, the last two were very painful. Before my last two periods, I experienced the brown discharge and after my periods. They were very heavy because I have fibroid tumors. This cycle is light with no pain, a little bloating, but the blood is dark. Is this normal or could something else could be going on? I have already had my pap for the year and it came out fine. Should I return to see my OB/GYN? Thanks for your assistance.

I reckon that the bleeding was due to fibroids, they are very likely to cause such problems as well as pain and bleeding during sex and swelling of the stomach.
