Hi, my sister is 32 years old and she is using Depakote for several months already and she feels very good. However she has heard recently that depakote may cause damages to cognitive functioning. I would like to know if someone knows something more about this topic. Thank you very much.

Hi, I am also using Depakote for some time and as all other derivates of valproic acid, Depakote may cause problems in cognitive functioning. By itself or in combination with other drugs Depakote may cause alteration of consciousness and cognitive functions with lethargy. I suggest you to consult your doctor.
