| I was on depo provera for 7 years, I didn't think things were too bad, then last year when the bone mineral density warnings came out, things got bad- my doctor sent me for a bone density scan- I found out that I had osteoporosis at the age of 28 and that depo provera caused it- I have severe back pain and may not be able to regain the bone mass I've lost- I'm terrified that after menopause I will turn into a crippled person because my bones will be so weak. |

| Please becareful with the depo shot. I've been off of it for 9 months now and still have not regained my libido...it has put a huge dent in my long term relationship. I would strongly urge u to use another method. Yes it was convenient, but not at all worth the side effects. |

Can someone tell me more about Depo Provera? My friend told me that she made a mistake choosing Depo Provera. She says that it changes her life completely and that it is a poison. What is this drug all about? Is it true that it causes so many side-effects?
| I only had two injections and my last one was in april 2006. It is now feb. 07 and now I have starting spotting every couple of weeks.does anyone know if this means it's getting out of my body? |

You have your depo shot once ever 3 months, but you must make sure you have it at the right date, otherwise it can mean your unprotected.

Actually, I sometimes doubt that you are "unprotected" if you are late taking it because it is taking months(9+ since it was due) for the shot to leave my body so that i can ovulate and get pregnant. I still haven't. I often wonder if it is necessary to take every 3 months if it has stopped my ovulation for over 12 months, or if they just want to make more money by saying it only lasts 3 months? |

I have been on depro for over 2 years, my being on it is not for birth control, it is for unusual uterine bleeding...i was bleeding to no end and passing HUGE blood clots...the only thing that stopped the bleeding is the depo provera...so my case is different...the only other alternative is hesterectomy..I am 53 and about to go into menopause anytime...it has been great for my bleeding, i have gained 30-40 lbs and stomach a little bloated, but the bleeding seemed to be far more devastaing than the shot...I almost died from the bleeding, but thanks to depo provera i stopped... |

I thought the Depo was going to be great, "no periods?...sign me up!!". Boy was I wrong. I only had the shot one in October, and now, after 2 months of being off of it, I still havnt had a period. Were TTC, and its been a nightmare. Ive been having hot flashes, constant headaches, sick to my stomach, extreamly emotional ( I cried the other night because my sandwich wasn't cut), back pain, and unable to sleep at night.
I wouldnt reccomend Depo to anyone...ever. I say if you cant keep up with taking a pill every day or changing the Nuva Ring every month, then you just dont need to have sex.
