THIS IS IN RESPONSE TO ALL THE WOMEN IN THIS THREAD WHO HAVE HAD NEGATIVE EXPERIENCES WITH THE SHOT:QUIT SCARING EVERYBODY!
FROM WHAT I'VE READ, IT SEEMS MOST OF YOU DID NOT THOUROUGHLY READ UP ON THE DEPO SHOT BEFORE YOU DECIDED TO TAKE IT. AND SOME OF YOU SAYING THAT YOUR DOC TOLD YOU THERE ARE NO SIDE EFFECTS? YOU MUST BE PRETTY STUPID TO HAVE BELIEVED HIM/HER! EVERY WOMAN IS DIFFERENT, BODY AND MIND-WISE.
I'M SORRY FOR THOSE WHO HAVE HAD BAD EXPERIENCES, BUT YOU SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR THE SIDE EFFECTS. ITS NOT THE SHOTS FAULT THAT YOUR BODY CANT HANDLE IT.
I'M ON IT, AND IT IS GREAT. I HAVEN'T GOTTEN FAT FROM IT, NONE OF THIS RESTLESS LEG SYNDROME, OR WEIRD BLLEDING STORIES..

ALTHOUGH READING THIS THREAD HAS INFORMED ME OF WHAT SOME OF YOU WOMEN ARE EXPERIENCING, AND IM SORRY, BUT DON'T TELL THESE GIRLS THAT THEY SHOULDN'T BE ON IT, AND SCARING THEM BY BASICALLY SAYING IT'LL RUIN THEIR BODIES AND LIVES IF THEY DECIDE TO START DEPO.
LIKE I SAID, EVERY GIRL IS DIFFERENT.
LET THEM DECIDE FOR THEMSELVES WHAT THEY FEEL IS THE RIGHT METHOD FOR THEM.

Evil or Very Mad I WAS ON DEPOVERA FOR ALMOST TWO YEARS, DURING THAT TIME I GAINED 60 POUNDS, I HAD THINING HAIR, ABNORMAL PAP TESTS, RECURRENT YEAST INFECTIONS, SEVERE ACNE,LUMPS IN MY BREASTS WHICH REQUIRED SURGICAL REMOVAL AND IF TO TOP IT ALL OFF I GOT PREGNANT. I WOULD STRONGLY ADVISE ANY WOMAN TO NEVER RESULT TO THE QUICK METHOD OF DEPO BECAUSE YOU JUST MIGHT PAY WITH YOUR LIFE. - LAURA 23

I am so sorry that so many women seemed to be so seriously effected by the shot. You are all probably going to hate me but I was on it for about 3 years after having issues remember to take my pills, a year old and an unwanted pregnency. I had no issues, I moved forgot to get a new shot set up and what I thought was a severe cold was a side effect of comming off it, combined with comming out preg in about 2 weeks time. After I had my son, the first thing I asked was how soon, I could get back on and was it safe with breast feeding. I was reasured I could get it at our 2 wek visit, did and 10 years later, with only one break in between for lowering bone loss, I only deal with migraines which could be related to other things, like junk food diets. I do have joint pain wich could be agrevated by the use of depo I am sure, but I also have scroliosis and have since I was born, which I was always told, would effect my bones later in life. But all in all, I have no weight gain, no periods, ha a good transition to pills 3 years ago. I stopped the pills because I love no having a period. I am still only on the shot because I truly have desire for more children but my husband and I sit on the fence when it comes to getting my tubes tied.
Again sorry that it hasn't worked out so well for many here. I guess thus far I have been lucky. Not to mention I appear so much less healthier than all of you. I guess we truly are made different!

I have to say that the shot is one of the best options, very few people actually have major side effects. It's convienent not having a period, i never get pms, mood swings, or head aches and i've been on it for 1.5 years. I've never had any spotting, infections, or any other problems. I have to say that the positives heavily outweigh the negatives, and it is completely reversable! Its the solution for the woman on the go! As far as a lawsuit against depo to get it taken off the market would be DUMB and selfish! yes some women have side effects your doctor should have informed you of them, mine did, if yours didn't BLAME YOUR DOCTOR NOT THE SHOT.. everyone reacts different to everything, some people are alergic to peanuts some people are addicted, if someone dies from a peanut are you going to have it taken off the market? there are risks in life and it's your choice to take them or pass them by, i like the shot and alot of other women like the shot as well. It agrees with our bodies if it was taken off the market all these women who do well on it and did well on it would be deprived!
another example to make you see what i mean is:
Kimo is used to kill cancer and help cancer patients, but it killed my aunt when she had breast cancer because her body didn't accept it, it rejected it and it slowly made her weaker and unhealthier.. something that is so great for alot of people can do some people harm.. the shot does so well for me and other women and then not so well for others, but it shouldn't be eliminated or sued because of your bodies rejection

I have started researching the shot because I am a 24 year old woman and have had some problems with this shot. I have been getting the Depo shot for over 3 years now, sad thing is that I just was told by the doctor that it causes osteoporosis. What does it do to the women who already have it? I have Osteoporosis and have since I was a child along with scoliosis, osteopenia. My doctor has known this for over 2 years and never told me of the risk I was taking. I found out from a NURSE. I am so pissed and concerned about my health. I already take physical therapy twice a week and see specialists three times a month. I can't work a full-time job or do any bending. I have read some testimonies on here and I am getting even more pissed. I also have IBS. I haven't had a period since the day I got the first shot (the only good thing I have found). I am so tired and drained all the time, moody as hell, I have absolutely NO sex drive. I am lucky to have sex once a month. I have recently started gaining the weight. I have gained 40 pounds in less then six months and I am still constantly eating. Now mind you I have weighed exactly 125 since I turned 13. I gained 10 pounds with my first pregnancy and 15 with the second. I lost every bit of it before I even left the hospital (honestly) without any effort. Now I have a pouch that my family thinks I am pregnant. Hell even I sometimes think so. I sleep eat and bitch all day. What's that tell you. I have dizzy spells every morning and every time I get up from sitting down or bend over. I have head aches constantly. Now I didn't have not one side affect except going without my cycle until about a year ago. I have been on it for 3 years. You will eventually have these. I hope you stop them before its too late. The research I have found tonight has made my final decision on this matter. I will not be receiving any more shots ever again.

I posted in January 2007, when I was getting off Depo. You can check my previous post for my horror story. I just wanted to say that since I have been off the shot, all the side effects have vanished. I also have lost a TON of weight, and gone from a 14 back down to an 8! The only remaining issue is that my periods have NEVER returned. I had my last Depo shot in October, 2006, a tubal ligation in January, 2007 - and it is now April, 2008 and still not one period or even any spotting. My doctor put me on Provera (not Depo, but just plain Provera) to make me start my period and I took it for the five days prescribed, but still never got even a touch of a period. I have refused to take it again or take anything else to start my period because I'm done taking risks with hormones in my body. All my hormone tests were normal, and I should be having a period, but I'm not. It's because of Depo Provera - it's a poison and no one should be taking it.

Evil or Very Mad Way to knock these girls. You should be buried six feet under. People are supposed to trust there doctors but these days as drug companies give the payoff you can't anymore. You should be ashamed of yourself. If these poor women are in the hole I am they deserve to speak. It's not fair their doctors lied.

I took two depo shots when I had my last child.... That was 5 years ago and I am still suffering from the side effects! At first I didn't realize I was having any side effects until my husband told me (after the second shot)one day that he would divorce me if I Ever took another one! I was a total Witch and didn't even realize it until he said that... then I realized just how much it was effecting me. The list is Endless! It took me 2 years to get my periods back and BELIEVE me I was on my hands and knees begging for my period! It was like pmsing constantly... After I finally started having periods, they were not normal. I would get them about every 6 months for a time then it got to where it was every three months. As of now, my last period was in Feb 2007 (6 months ago!) and I am again on my hands and knees begging for it to start! I have had so much weight gain from "the shots".... My body stays blown up with fluid and I look 6 months pregnant... But I am Not! I take a test monthly just to be on the safe side..... I am Miserable!!! My feet and ankles stay swollen... I have No nerves left! pms sounds like a blessing compared to what I have been going through. I am only 38 and have the change of life symptoms! hot flashes..... you name it. I have the boils too.... I really feel as if my life will Never be back to "Normal" again. It has been almost 5 years!!!! My daughter turns 5 Sept 4th and I had my first shot right after I had her.... Oh and When I Do have periods.... They are so light that I don't know if they actually qualify as periods!
I have read quite a few posts and for the ones that think depo is Great! All I can say to you is that you just don't realize how poisonous this shot really is yet! I mean think about it.... Really Think About it.... Anything that stops your period CANNOT be good for you!!!!!!!!!! How on Earth could it be???? I know how it is to think.... Oh WOW! How nice is it to Not have a period! Don't we All wish we could do without that messy business! But Really!!!! It is the cycle of life and it IS Something our bodies need!!!

Now to all the Depo Haters out here....... Isn't there a way we can do a lawsuit against this????? If we don't get ANYTHING out of it other than it taken off the market!!!!!!! I have read it stated before as "The Shot of Death" And Canada at one time had a law suit over the depo shot..... I KNOW I do NOT want my children or my children's children to Ever take this shot and go through what I have went through........

I too wish they would take this poison off the market! There are way too many women who are having almost all the same side effects, I wish I had never taken the first shot, at first it was fine, then came the weight gain, after I had just lost lover 40lbs before I started taking the stupid shot, then came the thinning hair, then came the muscle aches and joint pain, and lets not forget the swelling, had to get on a fluid pill for that then I decided to quit the shot after reading what was going on with other women and women I have talked to. I know not every women has had these side effects but there are more women who have than those who have not!

PostPosted: 05/06/08 - 23:10    Post subject: Pro Depo Vote now! Reply with quote

I have been on Depo since the summer of 2000 and every 9-12 weeks i thank god that my doctor is pro-depo. I was diagnosed with endometriosis, had a quick surgery and started taking depo that summer. i have had no periods since (there was sometimes spotting in university when i lived with a bunch of girls).

i gained weight, but i cannot blame depo for that - like most people in their 20's i could go to the gym more or eat healthier and stay the size i was when i was 20. my doctor said that the people that gain 30 pounds in the first month are typically those that are slightly overweight to begin with.

I went for bone density scans and have no problems with that either. i do still get the horrible back pain once a month, but the cramps, the puking for 3 days straight, the migrains the week before my period - - they have all stopped - not to mention the endometrial cysts - thanks to depo provera.

i am sorry for everyone who had bad experiences with it, but i think for some it is the best option. i would agree that it is not the best form of birth control, but i do think that if you require it for medical reasons then its something worth looking into.

sure, I "loved" it too. For the first 2 years.

Then sex became so painful..nearly destroyed my relationship, we couldn't have sex at all. I saw dr's, gyno's...then read the back of the box.

Short story - went off of it pronto after realizing it was the depro (now enjoying a great libido and no pain!)

but after 6 years..I have yet to have a normal period again. I'm THIRTY!!! Fertility problems...YES.

I think it's messed up my chance of having a baby.
