Hi, my sister suffers from depression since her husband left her three years ago. She used some medicines such as Zofolt, and it helped her for a while, but now, she is not just depressed, she is in despair. I don’t know what I can do to help her.

I know what desperation feels like. It is one-step closer to agony then depression. Your sister is suffering from a broken heart, and she can’t find a cure. People say that time is the only cure, but if you really loved somebody who hurt you, it might take a century to pass. Desperation is loosing hope of any happiness in the future. I think you should try to make her spend more time in a company of different people, family and friends. Socializing could make her forget about her loneliness. Spend more time with her, and do some different things together. For example, you could ask her to help you make a party for someone’s birthday, or you could make a barbecue together. I think this might cure her despair.
