| Does anyone know what I would be in for if I have an ENT fix my twisted sinus passages and deviated septum and then have a plastic surgeon come in and make my nose straighter and smaller? I heard about the packing too and I am hoping I don't have to go through that. Would I be crazy to do it 5 days before Christmas and have 2 weeks off from work? |

i just had this proceedure done. it was tuesday morning and today its thursday morning. it wasn't real painful but im also taking percocets so im not in pain or discomfort. the worst part for me so far is the packing and splits are still in my nose and i have to wait until tuesday for them to remove it, 1 weeks time. this is very uncomfortable and although im not bleeding no more, my nose is leaking and its a pain in the rear. all i want to do is have this stuff removed but i have to wait like everyone else. i guess a week of discomfort will be worth it if all goes well.
good luck, if i could go back would i do it again i'd say yes. |

| I had surgery for a deviated septum 16 years ago and it was HELL. The packing and pain was awful. I took meds and slept as much as possible. I was told I moaned in pain a lot. When they took the packing out over a week later, I thought they were goign to pull my brain out with it. It was soooo long. GRosss!! 16 years later I still have a deviated septum. 90% blockage. I went to see an ENT doc this time. 16 years ago I went to a cosmetic surgeon. This doctor will do the surgery on ther 28th. NO packing just desolving stitches. I believe he is also using lazer which is less invasive , less bleeding etc.. I am nervous BUT I believe it will be a walk in the park compared to how they did it 16 years ago. |

I just went in for a consultation today because my doctor has recommended a septoplasty for me, and they told me that they will "reshape the cartiledge" (break your nose) and reset it. They do in fact break your nose. I am not so eager to have this surgery since I am hearing mixed reactions about it. Last year I had a Tonsillectomy and was out of work and on te couch for two and a half weeks (24 years old at the time). Recovery time seems to be lengethened the older you get When I awoke in the recovery room of the out patient hospital, there was a man across the room with an ice pack on his face just moaning and crying. When I asked what was wrong with him..the nurse told me he had just had a septoplasty. (My doctor wanted to do the tonsillectomy and septoplasty at the same time...YA RIGHT!)
Everyone recovers differently, and doctors each use different procedures (splints or padding). Whatever you do, make sure you get the most information possible before deciding on this surgery. |

I must have an incredibly high threshold for pain, that or the previous posts are total BS.
It doesn't hurt. I was off pain meds before 24hours was up, that included Tylenol. I was bored and ready to go back to work within 3 days. I didn't bleed that much and I didn't lie around crying. No packing, just splints, and it doesn’t hurt.
I'm following my doctor's orders, no heavy lifting, no bending, and irrigation, irrigation, irrigation. The nasal stuffiness is the most irritating part, followed by the dry mouth, both easily fixable.
I was so scared by the time I got to surgery because of all the doom-and-gloom people telling me how bad it hurt, how little it helped and such. They were 100% wrong! If you are thinking of this surgery, or have been told by your doctor you need it, don’t hesitate! I’m only a week past surgery, I had surgery on Wednesday and have been back to work since Monday, and have no pain. I’m a little stuffy, but septoplasty is SURGERY. You must expect swelling!
Put on your big girl panties and get over it. |

I had a septoplasty plus a little bit of endoscopic sinus work done two days ago.
The put me out and the procedure took about 45 minutes. I had packing in my nose/sinus for 24 hours (taken out yesterday and yes, it sucked), and I have a splint in my nose still to be taken out later this coming week. Pain wasn't a huge factor for me, what really, really sucked was the drainage.
Having your nose packed, all the bleeding is forced down your throat. The day of the surgery, at home, I laid around and blood constantly was going into my throat and I was swallowing it. I tried to spit some out but it's hard when you need to lay back with your head tilted all the time.
So come night time, my stomach was full of my own blood, and apparently my stomach didn't like this. I threw up huge pools of blood repeatedly and my mom almost took me to the ER. It may have been one of the most miserable nights of my life, and I only hope it was worth it. We'll have to see after I'm all healed up. |

people should actually know what they are talking about before they wrote. the person who said they had their nose broke is RIGHT! Some deviated septums are so bad they do recuire your nose to be broken. MOST dont but SOME do! I know because m doctor made me watch a video on like the 4 different types of surgeries
Sometimes you need packing, sometimes not. If they break your nose its like 4 times as painful and takes a lot longer to heal
I didnt need mine broken but i did need the packing. And it did hurt like hell the first two days until the packing was taken out
if you have your nose broken, you MUST have packing, and it stays in longer and it really does feel like they are ripping your brains out when they take it out
you people should learn to read or just learn period |

I'd just had this surgery Wednesday.. it is now Sunday.
When I woke in recovery, I had no pain, nor did I remember anything after getting drugged.
I was given T3's which I took for two days just in case.
Upon waking after the first night, the pain I experienced was minimal.. maybe a 1 or 2 out of 10.
T3s took this away.
The worst part was the packing.. it was a pain in the butt. It was removed two days after sugery and it wasn't painful.. though shortly afterward minor bleeding started, which hasn't yet stopped yet (approx 40 hours after packs removed).
This minor bleeding is a huge pain, as it's clogged up my nose and is such a mess.
The experience has been okay so far.. the biggest pain was not understanding why my surgeon wanted me to take a week off work, since I have a desk job sitting on my butt.
Now it's evident.. I'd scare people away with my giant red and bloody nose.
I hope when all is healed I will once again be able to breathe! |

I just had my Deviated Septum Surgery on Monday, and it is now thursday. Thankfully I did not have any packing, just a few disolvable stitches.
The pain was not as bad as everything that I have read about. Though it does have its moments. The only thing that is still bothering me is the leftover bits of drainage, but I definately want to say that it is not that bad. Been taking the percocet to help me sleep at night, but thats all.
hopefully the end result will be worth it! =) |
