Hello,
I need advice. My father was diagnosed with diabetes 3 years ago, he is 56 now. He is an alcoholic, workaholic, … he is a good eater and doesn’t care for the doctor’s opinion how he shouldn’t drink or eat certain food. But lately he’s having problems with his eyes. He never wore glasses. But I he is going blind now. He can’t see the big title in newspaper. He can’t notice things right in front of him! Has he problems with his eyes because of diabetes?

Hey,
Yes it is very probable he is having eye problems because of diabetes. This is actually the most feared complication of diabetes. In diabetes total blindness is uncommon, although the fear of losing sight in people with diabetes is very strong. On the other hand diabetes is the most common cause of blindness in the USa among younger individuals. BUT, early detection of diabetes or problems with eyes because of diabetes can avoid this.
However, as you say your dad is almost blind. Didn’t he go to the doctor because of this problem? Unless an aye exam is done, most people don’t even know that diabetes caused them damage. There are some proven therapies that can help him, like laser photocoagulation, potential biochemical interventions. But I am afraid that his state won't reverse- he won't get better with this treatment. They will just prevent the possible lost of sight because of diabetes. However, you must talk to him and address him to visit doctor.
