Difference between normal and keloid scar?

My friend told me that he has a problem with keloid scar. She tried to explain to me what kind of scars is keloid scar, but I’m not sure that I understood her well. I know that keloid scars typically appear following surgery. But can somebody tell me what is difference between normal and keloid scar?

As you know, after the skin is injured, the healing process usually leaves a flat scar. Normal scars often subside by themselves and that process can take one year or more. But keloid scar has a tendency to migrate into surrounding areas that weren't injured and unlike normal scars, keloids do not subside over time.
