Are sleep disorders genetic? I am 27 year old mother of two young boys ages 4 and almost 2. My oldest son has not slept through the night since he was born except after his tonsil surgery in August (and that was just because of being knocked out). My younger son has had a couple of nights where he only wakes up once but still not a full nights sleep since he was born. When I was first born my mom said I slept through the night fine then when I was about 2 1/2 my mom said I started having trouble sleeping and started sleep walking and talking and wokeup several times in the middle of the night. I still can't sleep all the way through the night even on nighttime meds. Could it be something genetic causing it. I have tried dark quiet rooms which makes matters worse so I have used nightlights in their room and it still happens. My oldest son had a sleep study done and I am waiting for the results.
