Distended stomach when hungry

My stomach gets really hard - filled with gas - and distended if I don't eat at the first rumblings of hunger. I know it is gas because I had x-rays done prior to eating one morning, and the stomach filled and the doctor indicated that it was gas. I don't burp or pass gas when this happens. Rather, it takes a few hours to go down on its own. This is extremely painful and hurts to touch my stomach with any pressure at all until it is completely subsided. My concern is that I don't know what to do - the doctor has done no additional follow-up or provided any direction on how to stop this. (Yes, I know I need to find a new doctor, but I don't even know what to look for anymore. I'm terrified of having more tests done because all other tests this year have come back with bad news - regarding our struggle to get pregnant, PCOS, and the latest a possibility of type-2 diabetes.) Basically I have to snack every few hours to keep the stomach problem from recurring. I would love to know if anyone else has the same problem and what was identified as the cause.
