Do shingles cause lymph nodes to swell?

Hello! My father had shingles. He really had difficult time since he felt much pain. At first the whole family was very concerned since his condition was scary but when our doctor explained this disease to us we calmed down. He recovered soon and he is fine now. But, we noticed his lymph nodes are swollen. Are shingles the reason for lymph nodes to swell.

Hello! Lymph and lymph nodes are major parts of our immune system. They contain antibodies and white blood cells which that protect the body against infection. Lymph nodes often swell near the location of infection. The common cause of swollen lymph nodes is infection and they usually go back to their normal size when the infection is over. Since shingles is caused by a virus it is not strange that lymph nodes swelled. Other viral illness, such as measles, rubella, chickenpox (varicella), or mumps could also cause lymph nodes to swell.
