My son is going to be operated on in a few days; we are just waiting for the main surgeon to come back from some convention. Anyway, I was told that he was going to be given promethazine and fentynal as a part of anesthesia. Do you think these drugs given in a picc line could cause a neuropathy?
Both promethazine and fentanyl are medications that are commonly given during and after the surgery. They serve as painkillers and while promethazine is phenothiazine antihistamine (blocks the spots where histamine reacts), fentanyl is an analgesic (opioid, narcotic). You do not have to worry, those will just help your son pass the surgery more easily.
