Hi, I have symptoms of hypertensive hearth disease, but my EKG is normal. Normal EKG indicates proper heart function, still I develop pain easily when being physically active. Does a normal EKG rule out most hypertensive heart disease?

Hi, unfortunately you can have normal EKG at rest and still have Ischaemic Heart Disease and attacks of angina. Coronary artery are responsible for supplying hearth with blood, if they get narrowed or blocked due to the deposition of cholesterol plaques on their walls, hearth is not properly nourished. Insufficient supply of oxygen and nutrients to the heart musculature, causes pain- angina. If a portion of the heart is suddenly left without blood supply, due to blockage in arthery, the result is a heart attack. . An exercise testing (Treadmill Test-TMT) is often used to diagnose patients who have symptoms of angina, but have normal ECG patterns. TMT is indicated in all high-risk categories beyond the age of 35, with obvious symptoms.
