Does antihistamines make benign prostatic hyperplasia worse?

Hello, I am 63 years old and I have serious medical problems. I am suffering from benign prostatic hyperplasia. It was found two years ago, I am in the second phase of this condition. I experience urinary retention (partially). I also have allergic rash. Doctor prescribed me with antihistamines. A friend told me that this medicine could affect my BHP. Do antihistamines make BHP worse?

Antihistamines are type of medication that blocks histamine receptors. They do not have the affect on the histamine already released. They have some secondary functions, such as anticholinergic, antiserotonin, it depresses CNS etc. Since they work as anticholinergic they should be avoided with BHP. I am sure that you should consult your doctor again.
